More Stuff On the Way

Updates...

I have been getting field experience with the 75mm Summarit-M for the last two months. My review was basically all written too (a scalding one!) but then I had to scrap half of it because all the bad images were arguably my fault. So I’ll just have to say that it is a very difficult-to-use lens. As soon as I finish my partial rewrite, I will post it.

I will also be writing a short review of the 50mm f/1.8G someday, maybe soon, maybe not. I have one here in the D700’s bag. I’m not using it much but I can say it impresses me when I do use it. What value for the price, incredible!

The new Sigma 180mm f/2.8 APO Macro OS, that was announced today, is really a telephoto I could go for. Finally, OMG, there is one! This is a lens I will be renting for a test drive when it becomes available.

The new Fuji X Pro-1, also announced today, is almost the camera of my dreams. In my dream the sensor is bigger, but that’s about it. This is close enough that I may get one to serve as a more versatile, more fun side-kick for my M9. Or rent one and see how it goes.  There’s all sorts of comparisons that will get made once this camera is out in people's hands!

So hopefully there will be some new stories soon...

  1. Hi Olivier,
and.. what about the brand new Zeiss 2/25? 🙂

    Daniele

    • Hi Daniele,

I’m curious about that lens too, but it’s not something I need right now. My gear tests are need-driven, for some loose definition of “need”. One might say that my slow pace of writing recently is a pretty good indication that my kit does what I need it to do right now. :^)

So I think I will test the 2/25 eventually, as a public service, but I don’t know when I’ll get around to it.

      Cheers,

      Olivier

  2. Hi Olivier,
I understand your point of view… well, I think then that I’ll wait your review of the Nikkor 50 f/1.8 G: don’t know exactly why, but this lens intrigues me 🙂
May I ask you why you don’t use it much?

    Cheers,
    Daniele

    • Because I don’t use the D700 much either, anymore, I’m always using the M9. I have some idea (why I got the 50mm-G) that I sometimes need to shoot a moving subject but I think that assumes you carry the camera, which I’m not doing.

      Olivier
